THE LEGACY OF ANDREW MEANS

Andrew Means, a Gary resident for over 53 years achieved many great accomplishments during his lifetime. He saw success as a builder, real estate broker and philanthropist.

One of his crowning achievements was his Park Manor subdivision, now known as Means Manor. Park Manor was heavily marketed to Chicagoans who tired of the city life and Gary-ites who sought quality housing to raise their families.

The families of Means took pride in their property, homes and each other. They created a neighborhood where children could play safely without fear–a neighborhood that instilled the right values and a nurturing environment.

Means Manor must be preserved as a local historic district so that future generations can experience the same  quality of life those before them worked hard to achieve and to make sure that the sense of community is never destroyed.
